The Cabildo of Lanzarote "demands" the Government of the Canary Islands access to the aquaculture project

Corujo: “We have requested the General Directorate of Fisheries to see the file of this concession in order to exercise our legally established rights and powers and defend the interests of the Island and our neighbors”

Statement from the President of the Cabildo regarding the marine cages

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has expressed to the Government of the Canary Islands its "discomfort" through an official letter, by which access to the aquaculture project of the well-known marine cages that are intended to be installed and exploited between the coasts of Arrecife and Tías is requested.

The president of the Island Council, María Dolores Corujo, stressed that, after the publication in the BOC of January 30, by which the project presented by the company Yaizatún, S.A., for the granting of an aquaculture concession to be located in the area of aquaculture interest located in the marine geographical area of the ZIA-LZ-2 is submitted to public information, “we have requested the General Directorate of Fisheries to see the file of this concession in order to exercise our legally established rights and powers and defend the interests of the Island and our neighbors”.

In the same way, the president alluded to article 3 of Law 40/2015, of October 1, on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector, claiming that the Government of the Canary Islands shows institutional loyalty in this matter, transparency and facilitates cooperation, collaboration and coordination between Public Administrations.

The president recently held a meeting with representatives of the City Councils of San Bartolomé, Tías and Arrecife, as well as with members of fishermen's associations, the Chamber of Commerce and the Tourist Federation of Lanzarote, in order to show the island's rejection of the new aquaculture facilities and to demand the Corporation's powers to control the aquaculture activity of Lanzarote.
