The Cabildo of Lanzarote, under the presidency of Oswaldo Betancort and the management of the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion led by Marci Acuña, has assisted more than 1,400 people in vulnerable situations during the past year 2024, thanks to the new Specialized Service in Inclusion and Social Intervention and the creation of a Network of Social Resources.
According to the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, "this achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to those who need it most. Lanzarote and La Graciosa today have a stronger support system, capable of offering real solutions to people in situations of social exclusion.”
As detailed by the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, "during the past year, 350 people on our island have been referred to accommodation resources and more than 300 families have received financial aid, which demonstrates the direct impact of these initiatives on the lives of our citizens.”
It should be remembered that the investment of the first Corporation in social inclusion policies reached 5,102,868 euros in 2024, increasing by more than 1.4 million compared to the previous year. For this fiscal year 2025, the Cabildo will allocate 8 million euros for the creation of a Multipurpose Social Center in Altavista that will include essential services such as a residence, day center and a 20-bed center for homeless people with dining room, showers and laundry.
With these actions, "the Cabildo of Lanzarote reinforces its commitment to improve the quality of life of the most disadvantaged residents of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, working in close collaboration with NGOs and social entities," they conclude.
