The Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa will allocate, once approved in the extraordinary plenary session to be held this Thursday, almost 6.4 million euros for the extraordinary Municipal Cooperation Plan for 2026. This was communicated by the president, Oswaldo Betancort, and the vice president of the island corporation and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area, María Jesús Tovar, in a meeting with the seven municipalities of the island.
As a main novelty, and with the sole objective of facilitating the process for the municipalities, the payment will not be anticipated to the execution of the projects, both for works and services beneficial to the citizens of the municipality; instead, the Cabildo will issue a formal commitment decree and payment will be made once the justification and execution have been verified. In this way, possible reimbursements for unexecuted parts are avoided; late payment interest is avoided, and legal certainty and proper management of the plan are substantially improved.
“This Government group has worked, from day one and will continue to do so, extending a hand to the seven municipalities of the island in those interventions or actions that require help from the First Corporation. For this, coordination and good inter-administrative communication are essential to carry out the projects,” affirmed President Oswaldo Betancort, who also thanked the seven municipalities “for their willingness and collaboration when it comes to bringing together all competent administrations.”
For her part, the vice president and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area assured that this Municipal Cooperation Plan “is an orderly, clear, secure response that guarantees the viability of municipal projects.” “We held this meeting just over a year ago to decide, with the approval of the seven municipalities, that the economic amounts of the 2025 PCM would be allocated to the Tahíche residence. Now, we resume the commitment to distribute the amounts equitably and based on municipal participation in the resources derived from the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) 2026.
Distribution of amounts and processing methods
During the meeting held with the seven town councils, the amounts that corresponded to each town council were detailed based on the resources derived from the REF. In this way, the Arrecife Town Council corresponds to 2,465,539.21 euros; while Teguise will be granted 938,403.24 euros based on the projects presented and Tías a total amount of 827,746.69 euros.
For its part, the Yaiza Town Council will have a maximum of 757,468.30 euros; San Bartolomé with 755,293 euros and Tinajo with 348,236.97 euros. Finally, the Haría Town Council will correspond to a maximum of 299,865.24 euros.
The method for processing this extraordinary Municipal Cooperation Plan, once approved in the next extraordinary plenary session, will begin after the decree that constitutes the formal commitment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa to finance these works or services projects. Subsequently, each town council may allocate the corresponding credit in its budget and, finally, once the execution has been verified, the amounts will be paid for subsequent justification.
