The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved this Tuesday in the Governing Council the proposed resolution to start the formulation, processing and approval of the Special Plan of La Geria, as required by the Land Law of 2017.
“This is another step to fulfill our public commitment to the citizens to approve the Special Plan of La Geria definitively during this mandate”, said the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, who added that “the Cabildo will be exquisite when it comes to complying with all legal requirements to prevent the Plan de La Geria from being overturned in the courts, as has happened on two previous occasions.”
In this regard, the Cabildo of Lanzarote will launch during the present month a previous process of citizen participation, of a consultative nature, through the web portal to know the opinion of the people of Lanzarote on the problems to be solved with this Plan, the need and the opportunity of the regulation of this protected space, the objectives pursued and the possible alternatives.
As will be recalled, the Cabildo of Lanzarote awarded last August for an amount of 355,259 euros the elaboration of said Plan to the public company Gesplan, a document that runs parallel to the beginning of the legal file of the aforementioned planning, approved today in the Governing Council.
“With the approval of this file for the elaboration of the Special Plan of La Geria we continue with our roadmap to make this mandate the Legislature of the Territory”, according to the Councilor of Territorial Policy of the Cabildo, Jesús Machín.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote, following the guidelines of the Planning Regulations of the Canary Islands, also approved this Tuesday the designation of the architect Mercedes Fuentes Perdomo as the director responsible for the Plan, while the Government of the Canary Islands will be in charge of the Environmental Assessment “in the event that, at the time of initiating the procedure, the Environmental Body of the Cabildo, currently in processing, is not constituted”, according to the text of the proposed resolution.
Improvements in the Zonzamas Environmental Complex
Among the issues discussed this Tuesday by the Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the technical project of the works in the treatment line of the classification plant of the Zonzamas Environmental Complex was also approved to increase its capacity, as well as the 2016-2025 strategy for the renovation of water distribution networks for the supply in the area of the western periphery of Arrecife, which includes the tank on Portugal Street.
On the other hand, the call for subsidies for Operating Expenses in Livestock Farms and the bases for subsidies for the improvement of public transport and island mobility were approved.
Likewise, the Cabildo gave the green light to the adhesion of the Island Corporation to the Centralized Contracting System and the criteria, guidelines and calendar for the approval of the Institution's Budget for 2024 were also approved.
