The Cabildo meets with the hunters of Haría to learn about their concerns

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Hunting Area, has summoned the Lanzarote Hunters Society and the hunting community in general to a meeting this Thursday, September 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Convent of Santo Domingo de Teguise.

As stated by the Councilor for Hunting, Samuel Martín, "the objective of this meeting is to listen to the demands and concerns of the sector and analyze the current situation after the decree of temporary closure of hunting in the municipality of Haría, due to the poisoning cases detected by the environmental agents of the Island Council."

It should be remembered that after the location, in Guinate, of several specimens of dead Canarian raven (Corvus corax canariensis), a species classified as in danger of extinction, the Government of the Canary Islands recommended that the Lanzarote Cabildo extend the provisional suspension of hunting activity in Haría until the corresponding analytical results are available.

Although hunting activity is carried out normally in the rest of the island, as agreed in the last Island Hunting Council, field work and intensive surveillance by the agents continue in the municipality of Haría.

"However," says Samuel Martín, "from the Cabildo we understand the concern of the hunters in the municipality of Haría, although this temporary closure will be rewarded with the extension of the closed season in the northern area to avoid damage to the group."

"However," adds the councilor, "we have called this meeting, at the request of the Hunters Society itself, to listen to the demands of the hunting sector, analyze the current situation, assess and agree on new formulas that minimize the impact of this measure on the hunters of Lanzarote."
