The technicians of the Cabildo and those of the seven island councils have estimated at about 30 million euros the losses generated by the tropical storm Delta, once the documentation submitted by individuals and municipalities over the last few days has been reviewed and evaluated.
As expected, the primary sector of Lanzarote has been the hardest hit by Delta. Following the holding of the relevant meetings with the island's farmers and ranchers, the department coordinated by Higinio Hernández estimates that 17 million euros have been lost in infrastructure, crops, livestock and sand.
It should be recalled at this point that the COTMAC approved, on the morning of last Monday, the suspension of the articles of the P.I.O.T. that prohibit the extraction of aggregates, so, in the shortest possible time, work will begin for the use of material from Montaña Rodeos in order to restore the rofe in the island's sand, a unique way of working the land in the Canary Islands. In this regard, Higinio Hernández, assured that the COTMAC measure means "giving hope to the agricultural sector of Lanzarote".
Fishing and port infrastructures also suffered considerable damage. The Department of Fisheries estimates that 577,758 euros have been lost in docks, port constructions - for example, the Órzola maritime station was completely destroyed - and the sinking of numerous boats due to the sea storm.
The Sports City and the sports infrastructures attached to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, such as the Island Center of Nautical Sports, also suffered significant damage, which is estimated at 481,626.64 euros. For its part, the hydraulic network of Inalsa was partially affected by Delta, which generated damage valued at 267,000 euros, while the road network was damaged in around 40,000 euros.
Finally, the offices of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the street furniture dependent on the Cabildo suffered damages that reach 88,758.43 and 29,551 euros, respectively.
Regarding the first amount, 82,000 euros refer to the loss of income and material damage suffered by the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
As for the Island Hospital, the facilities suffered damage to their ceilings worth 4100 euros.
In total, the estimated amount for the repair and restoration of infrastructures, equipment and facilities of island scope damaged by Delta amounts to 18,508,794.07 euros.
Municipalities
With regard to the municipal area, the damages are valued in public lighting and traffic lights - 2,554,505.00 euros -, parks and gardens - 1,855,401.00 -, coastal infrastructures - 1,714,300.00 - , sports and cultural infrastructures - 1,188,413.00 -, and street furniture - 726,501.00 euros-.
In addition, Delta caused significant damage to signs, posters and information posts on the island's roads, worth 449,838.00 euros, in cemeteries and markets, for 406,840.00 euros, in social service centers, for 395,200.00, in waste treatment infrastructures, for 304,926.00, in schools and educational infrastructures - 277,927.00 euros - and in the hydraulic network for 62,400.
