The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, held a meeting this Thursday with the Minister of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Noemí Santana, with the aim of taking stock of the "successful" Comprehensive Dependency Care Service on the Island of Lanzarote (SADIL), a cooperation program between both institutions aimed at taking a qualitative leap in this area.

"We have taken a very important leap forward." This is how the president summarized the meeting, from which she highlighted that "the Cabildo of Lanzarote doubled the resolutions of the Individual Care Plan (PIA) and tripled those of the degree of Dependency in the last year, with respect to reference figures taken from 2018".

"In 2022, 467 PIA resolutions and 541 Dependency resolutions have been carried out. At this time, the waiting list is 596 people in degree and 307 for the PIA and the great news is that this 2023 we will end the waiting list," Corujo remarked.

The great advances in the matter, according to the president, "are the result of a sensitive Government and the great investment effort that is being made, having multiplied the economic item by two with respect to four years ago, contributing more than 21 million euros between both institutions".

For her part, the Minister of Social Rights, Noemí Santana, highlighted that "when we arrived, only 4,800 hours of telecare services were being given to dependent people in Lanzarote and currently there are more than 248,000 hours being provided".

"We are going to fulfill the objective that we have set ourselves and that is that throughout this year 2023, we can finally say that the Canary Islands will have a waiting list of 0 in the dependency system, starting with Lanzarote, which will be the first island to achieve it," said the regional minister.

More activities for the elderly in Arrecife

In this line, Santana announced that "in the Center for the Elderly in Arrecife we are going to make a joint commitment between the Cabildo and Social Rights in order to expand the range of activities that we are offering to the elderly on the island, and more specifically, to the residents of the capital of Lanzarote".

The president stated that "this initiative will provide Arrecife with a diverse range of activities and assistance for its elderly, demonstrating once again the Cabildo's commitment to serving this group in each and every one of the municipalities, with a special focus on those that need it most".

"More than 26 million until 2024"

Dolores Corujo announced that "this year the creation of the Consortium for the management of the SAIDIL is planned, which plans to serve approximately 900 dependent people in its first year. This consortium is a pioneer in the Archipelago and will be integrated by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo and the seven municipalities of Lanzarote. The creation and implementation of this service will involve an investment of more than 26 million euros until 2024", she added.

"These results are an incentive to continue working for vulnerable people and so that not a single person is left without receiving the dependency service to which they are entitled. We believe that this is the model to follow, cooperation and collaboration between public administrations," said the president.

Finally, Corujo thanked the Minister, the General Director of Dependency, Marta Arocha, and all the staff involved for their efforts, both from the Ministry of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands and from the area of Social Rights of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
