The Cuidando Lanzarote Project, promoted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, continues to facilitate job placement and provides great citizen benefits to the population of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. One of these island work groups is carrying out painting and refurbishment tasks at the CEIP Adolfo Topham and CEIP Nieves Toledo schools in Arrecife.
The Councilor for Education and Employment of the Cabildo, Ascensión Toledo, accompanied by the Councilor for Education of the Arrecife City Council, Abigail González, visited the schools this week to see firsthand the tasks being carried out and to thank the people assigned to this program called "Island Beautification", which is part of the Cuidando Lanzarote y La Graciosa Project, for their daily work.
"The Cabildo de Lanzarote has allocated just over 12.5 million euros for this employment plan, financed by the FDCAN funds. The main objective of Cuidando Lanzarote y La Graciosa" is the cleaning, maintenance and beautification of the islands in the period 2023-2025," Ascensión Toledo explained.
Improving public spaces
The councilor clarified that this specific working group belongs to Lot 4 of the Program, "Lanzarote Beautification", made up of a total of 25 people, including laborers, several drivers and a manager. "We have allocated up to 1.7 million euros to these actions for the maintenance of public, rural and municipal spaces," Ascensión Toledo detailed.
For her part, the Councilor for Education of the Arrecife City Council, Abigail González, added that "this type of initiative is possible thanks to the close coordination between the different institutions. Working together allows us to address projects and improvements that benefit, in this case, the educational community of Arrecife. The painting work carried out in several schools is a clear example of how institutional collaboration ensures that our centers are in the best condition. We will continue working along these lines to guarantee a suitable environment for our students and teachers."
It should be noted that, through Cuidando Lanzarote y La Graciosa, a total of 158 people have been hired for 3 years to clean the coastline, roadsides, maintain public spaces or remove waste, among other interventions. Seven lots were awarded; and two of them were specifically aimed at facilitating the hiring of people with disabilities.
