The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has highlighted this week the economic strategy designed by the Institution to relaunch and boost sports practice after the pandemic break. "We already designed a few months ago the new sponsorships that clubs with national presence receive through Turismo Lanzarote. And in this policy of public support, we also increased the subsidies for women's sports. Now we have explained to the wrestling clubs of the island what our new sponsorship plan is, designed through the Tourist Centers and which seeks to boost their activity," details the president.
Corujo refers to the meeting held last Friday with the presidents of the six wrestling teams that operate in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, a forum attended by the president accompanied by the CEO of the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT), Benjamin Perdomo, and the island councilor of Sports, Alfredo Mendoza. The president of the Island Wrestling Federation, Sebastián Lemes, was also present.
These agreements between the clubs and the Cabildo will allow the image of the CACT to appear on the wrestling attire of the combined teams, as well as on their casual wear and in the facilities of the arenas themselves.
"The objective of the meeting was to inform the entities of this new sponsorship agreement that they receive through the Tourist Centers," said Benjamín Perdomo, who emphasizes "the necessary effort" that comes from the Lanzarote public company "to give back to society part of the benefits it obtains from tourism activity".
"It was the sport that suffered the most during the pandemic"
Regarding the promotion of sports, the president of the Cabildo and also the highest executive director of the Centers, María Dolores Corujo, recalled that "it is not the first time that the Centers have been involved in helping to boost society".
"It recently did so with the groups of the Lanzarote Carnival, and it does so regularly, for example, with the new cultural projects that find accommodation in the CACT programming," says the president.
In addition, the Councilor for Sports, Alfredo Mendoza, points out that the sponsorship agreements with the wrestling clubs "can serve as a lever to speed up their sports and economic planning for the season. It is a way of lending a hand in this matter to Canarian wrestling, a sport that, remember, suffered the most during the pandemic. Therefore, it requires more public measures to put it back in the place it deserves".
