The president and Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, met this Wednesday with the mayors of the seven municipalities of the Island to begin the development phase of the Tourism Sustainability Plan 'Lanzarote the energy of the earth', to which it will allocate almost 5 million euros.
From the Corporation they affirm that this meeting "marks the starting signal of a great project of insular scope", and served to explain to the attending councilors the chronology of the initiative and "the actions that must be executed in each municipality for this to be a success".
“This Plan foresees a long work, which we will develop jointly Cabildo, Government of the Canary Islands, and municipalities of the Island, and that will last for about four years, so we consider it necessary to meet to publicize how it will be implemented and what will be the role of each municipality”, Corujo detailed.
“We are facing the start of an ambitious, important and millionaire project, for which we will invest a budget of 4,950,000 million euros, financed in equal parts with 1.65 million euros from the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Government of Spain, the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote”, explained the president.
This initiative, which was already announced last November, after the signing of the agreement between the three institutions, works on several objectives, such as "addressing a gradual repositioning of sun and beach tourist destinations towards more competitive and sustainable models, without exceeding the limits of their environmental carrying capacity, consolidating sustainable tourism models in urban destinations and promoting the development of tourist destinations located in rural areas and/or in protected natural spaces".
