The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the island Corporation's Handicrafts counselor, Aroa Revelo, visited this Monday the rehabilitation work being carried out on the well-known Casa del Cura, located at Encarnación Rodríguez Lasso street number 1, in the town of Haría.

The action undertaken by the Institution in this property it owns aims to refurbish the house, a place of high heritage value, with the objective of ensuring its enjoyment by the residents of the municipality, respecting its architectural and historical uniqueness at all times. This was clarified today by Oswaldo Betancort, who emphasized the importance of this intervention for the north of the island: "Our goal is that in two or three months this property will be in optimal condition so that it can be used by the elderly people of Haría, and thus we can begin to revitalize this emblematic Casa del Cura."

For her part, councilwoman Aroa Revelo has underlined the social and cultural value this space will have once the works are finished: "This has been a historic demand from the neighborhood for a property that holds great value and affection for the people of Haría. We will make this space accessible and continue working to enable our spaces for our elders."

The rehabilitation project promoted by the island Corporation focuses on the installation of the necessary infrastructure for its operation as a collective use venue, including conduits, supplies, and technical elements in accordance with current regulations. The works were awarded for an amount of 142,042.59 euros plus IGIC

La Casa del Cura is a property included in Haría's Municipal Architectural Catalog, with a Monumental 2 protection grade, equivalent to integral protection. It is a building of high heritage interest, both from an architectural and ethnographic point of view, being a representative example of the history and identity of the municipality and the island of Lanzarote, as highlighted by the Historical Heritage Service of the Cabildo in this project.

Originally built in the 19th century, the house was owned by teacher don Santiago Noda García and, later, by parish priest don Juan Arocha Ayala, who resided there until 1963. Over time, the property has had various uses.

The restoration works now being carried out by the Cabildo are fully aligned with the provisions of current urban planning regulations, and are part of the policies for the recovery of emblematic spaces and the creation of infrastructure for the benefit of citizens that the Institution, chaired by Oswaldo Betancort, has been implementing during the current term, with the aim of also revitalizing the social and cultural life of the seven municipalities of Lanzarote.
