The Insular Sports Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote held a strategic working meeting with the Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL) and the Association of Hoteliers and Apartment Owners of Lanzarote (ASOLAN), in which representatives from Lanzarote Tourism and the Teguise City Council participated, with the aim of coordinating joint actions and enhancing the socioeconomic impact of major sporting events on the island.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón; the president of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL) and ASOLAN, Susana Pérez; the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque; the councilor for Sports of Teguise, Alejandro Ramírez; as well as technical representation from Lanzarote Tourism and the hotel employers' association.
During the meeting, the parties addressed as a priority the implementation of the new format of IRONMAN Lanzarote, one of the most iconic and demanding triathlon events in the world, which comes into effect this year 2026, adapting to the new demands and standards of the international circuit.
Likewise, the insular area of Physical Activity and Sports presented to the municipal representatives and the tourism employers' association the progress of the I Insular Sports Fair of Lanzarote, a pioneering event promoted by the corporation to bring together administrations, the tourism and accommodation sector, leisure companies, clubs, and athletes in one space.
“Sport is an undeniable economic engine for Lanzarote. Working hand in hand with the FTL, ASOLAN, with Lanzarote Tourism, and with a benchmark municipality like Teguise allows us to plan the new IRONMAN format with solvency and lay the groundwork for the I Insular Sports Fair. We want to ensure that sporting events generate a real return, improve the tourist offering, and consolidate our island as a destination of international excellence,” stated the Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón.
For her part, the president of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation and Asolan, Susana Pérez, highlighted that both these sporting events and the first Sports Fair represent “an opportunity to continue advancing in the diversification of Lanzarote's tourist offering and to highlight the full potential that the island and tourism companies have in relation to sport, health, and well-being.”
“We have exceptional conditions to attract visitors linked to these activities and, at the same time, a tourism and business sector that has been working for years to meet this demand,” he stated, emphasizing that the fair will allow “the creation of meeting spaces between companies, professionals, and sports event organizers, fostering new collaborations and opportunities for the sector”.
This meeting is part of the roadmap of the Insular Sports Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote to reinforce transversal cooperation between tourism and sport, guaranteeing coordinated planning in terms of accommodation, logistics, and the island's external projection.
