The Board of Trustees of Timanfaya names Luis Pascual González honorary member posthumously

The Plenary has addressed the update of the camel ride rates, which will finally increase from 6 to 11 euros per person

The Plenary of the Board of Trustees of the Timanfaya National Park, held this Tuesday in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, has recognized the former director of the Timanfaya National Park, Luis Pascual González, who has been unanimously agreed to be named an honorary member of said board of trustees posthumously.

Luis Pascual was an extraordinary professional, who valued the natural heritage of Lanzarote and, especially, the Timanfaya National Park, and deserves all the recognition we can give him”, said the president of the island corporation and of the Board of Trustees of the Timanfaya National Park, María Dolores Corujo,

A graduate in Biological Sciences, González directed the Timanfaya National Park in two stages, the first between 1982 and 1987 and the second from 2013. In addition, he dedicated 26 years of his life to the management of protected areas and wild flora and fauna in the Government of the Canary Islands and in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, being responsible for the Environment area of the first island corporation.

Update of camel ride rates

On the other hand, the Plenary of the Board of Trustees of the Timanfaya National Park has reported in favor of the new agreement between the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Yaiza City Council for the entrustment of management of the Camel Transport Service to visitors to the Timanfaya National Park, which includes an annex updating the rates for the same.

“As we already announced, this historical demand of the camel drivers has been answered, who have been requesting since 2008 the adaptation and equalization of the prices of the activity to the rest of the island's leisure offer”, said María Dolores Corujo, expressing her satisfaction that the rates are going to be updated and also in a way that is higher than initially planned, since it had been announced that it would increase to ten euros. Finally, they will increase from 6 to 11 euros per person.

The proposal that has been approved in the session, which was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the regional Executive, Miguel Ángel Pérez, also includes a cost of 9.50 euros per person for travel agencies
