The Spanish Troop and Navy Association (ATME) recognizes the performance of the Canary Islands Command, which quickly organized and executed the deployment of the force in Ceuta as soon as it received the relevant orders.
ATME recalls, once again, that the Armed Forces cannot act without the corresponding order, given that their mission consists of complying with and executing it to guarantee the success of the operation. As established by the Constitution, the Armed Forces do not act on their own; they intervene when they receive the relevant instructions and with the legitimacy granted to them by law.
Likewise, ATME expresses its gratitude to all the military personnel who participated in the deployment in the autonomous city of Ceuta, carried out in response to the events derived from the illegal crossing of the border by between 50,000 and 60,000 people, according to different sources. Once again, the Armed Forces have acted in defense of the territorial integrity of the country, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, providing support to the State Security Forces and Corps.
The association underlines the professionalism of the military personnel, who, under especially demanding conditions, gave their best, immediately reporting to their units when alerted by the competent command. This action is part of their commitment to permanent readiness for the defense of Spain and its citizens, as set out in the Organic Law on Rights and Duties of Military Personnel, and was carried out through marathon working days alongside the rest of the FCSE.
Once the most critical moments have passed, with most of the migrants having returned to their country, ATME maintains its demands for the military profession to be recognized as high-risk, for the career model to be improved, and for the scourge of temporality to be eliminated, especially considering that police officers and civil guards over 45 years of age have been observed performing their duties, an age at which most soldiers and sailors must leave the Armed Forces. Likewise, the Association insists that the deployed personnel must know the legal limitations of their actions precisely and on the advisability of modifying current regulations so that, in exceptional situations such as the one experienced, they can exercise functions as an authority agent.
