The doors of the Day Center for Social Care for the Elderly open its doors this afternoon, Tuesday, November 26, to the celebration of its XXIII Cultural Week, an event organized by the General Directorate of the Elderly and Active Participation of the Government of the Canary Islands in collaboration with the Department of the Elderly of the Arrecife City Council, directed by Rosmen Quevedo Cabrera, which will extend until December 2.

This annual initiative, already consolidated as an essential event in the Arrecife calendar, will offer a space for meeting, learning and fun for the elderly. During a week full of activities, participants will be able to enjoy craft workshops, talks on emotional and physical well-being, musical presentations, theater, contests and excursions, among other proposals.

The program starts this Tuesday, November 26 with the official presentation of the Cultural Week, which includes the opening of an exhibition of handicrafts and a performance by the center's guitar group “Despacito pa'lante”. In addition, attendees can share an inaugural toast.

In the following days, activities such as a walk to the Islote de La Fermina, talks given by specialists such as the psychologist César Augusto Salinas and the nurse Elena Olmos Jular, and practical workshops such as the cognitive games or the Christmas one stand out. The closing ceremony, on Monday, December 2, will feature a performance by the Play Back de Mayores theater group, followed by a snack to say goodbye to this special week.

Councilor Rosmen Quevedo Cabrera stresses the importance of this event and recalls that “this Cultural Week is much more than an agenda of activities; it is a reflection of the commitment that we from the Arrecife Area for the Elderly have with the well-being and quality of life of our elders, and that we can make it a reality thanks to the involvement of the General Directorate of the Elderly, which is led by our colleague Verónica Meseguer”.

Likewise, Quevedo invites all citizens to come and share these events with the elderly, highlighting that “it is a perfect occasion to recognize the fundamental role of our elders and thank them for everything they have built for us”.
