The Animal Welfare Department of the Arrecife City Council inaugurated a new municipal operating room this Tuesday at the capital's Animal Protection Center, a facility that will allow for a more complete and higher quality veterinary service, especially regarding the control of feline coloniesThe new operating room, which is already operational and has qualified healthcare personnel, was visited this Tuesday by the councilor of the area, Jacobo Lemes, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio, on a day described as "historic" for animal welfare in the municipalityDuring the visit, the councilman highlighted that "today is a special day for this center and for Arrecife in terms of animal welfare. We are opening the doors of a 100% municipal operating room, the first of its kind on the island, which will be at the service of controlling feline colonies and protecting our animals".
Jacobo Lemes underlined that with this new infrastructure “Arrecife continues its firm commitment to animal welfare and remains a pioneer in the development of public initiatives for the protection, care, and attention of animals”.
For his part, the deputy mayor, Echedey Eugenio, highlighted the coordinated work between the different municipal areas and the professionals involved. "This operating room is the result of exemplary collaboration between the Animal Welfare Department, the Animal Protection Center, and the **Animal and Environmental Protection Unit** of the Local Police of Arrecife. It is a direct investment in quality of service, public health, and institutional responsibility," he stated.The director of the Animal Protection Center, Ancor Marrero, explained that this new veterinary infrastructure "will represent a fundamental boost for the ethical control of feline colonies through sterilizations, as well as for the healthcare of dogs and cats that already reside in the center or that arrive in situations of abandonment or risk".Marrero also wanted to highlight that the design and planning of the operating room have been in charge of the veterinarian William Díaz, and he thanked "the involvement and the positive response of the City Council from the first moment, which has made it possible for this facility to be a reality today within a municipal space".The Arrecife Animal Protection Center continuously carries out tasks of collection, veterinary care, recovery, identification, and responsible adoption of animals, in close coordination with the Agents of the Animal Protection and Environment Unit of the Local Police, thus reinforcing compliance with current regulations and the protection of animals in the municipalityWith the launch of this operating room, Animal Welfare Arrecife takes a decisive step in improving public animal welfare services, reinforcing its commitment to ethical, modern, and responsible management.
