The Argana Sports Pavilion will be ready by the end of the year

The council highlights that improvements have already been made to fire-fighting equipment, evacuation doors and adaptation of the capacity to the regulations

The Arrecife City Council is already planning the reopening of the Argana Alta Sports Pavilion, located in the largest neighborhood of the city and the island of Lanzarote. After eleven years closed, due to serious technical deficiencies, lack of licenses, and involved in judicial investigations of previous public officials, this sports venue, the largest of its characteristics of municipal ownership, will be back for the use and enjoyment of citizens, of the clubs and athletes of the municipality of Lanzarote.

Francisco Lázaro Torres, director for the Canary Islands of the company holding the concession for these sports facilities, together with the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, have confirmed today that the adaptation and legalization works of this Pavilion will be completed before the end of this year. With them, it will proceed to the reopening and its public use.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, together with the Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, and Francisco Lázaro Torres, director for the Canary Islands of the concessionaire company, held an informative meeting with the media this Tuesday so that they could learn about the progress of the works, which are progressing at a good pace, according to the specifications of legalization of the project prepared by the engineer Alexis Betancort Cabrera.

Yonathan de León promoted last summer, together with the Sports Councilor, the steps that have allowed the execution of these works, and will enable the legalization of this center, which was opened eleven years ago without a license.

The mayor of Arrecife has shown this Tuesday morning, together with the Councilor for Sports, the progress of the works to the media. A visit in which the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Finance, Echedey Eugenio, the Councilor for Youth, Rosmen Quevedo, the technicians of the works, and managers of the company holding the concession of the Sports Pavilion were also present.

By direct invitation of Yonathan de León, the president of the Argana Neighborhood Association, Ricardo Ballesteros, has learned today about the important progress of these actions in the also known as Sports Palace of Arrecife, both inside and outside. Ballesteros congratulated the mayor, and his Government group, for "the merits in launching this reopening".

During this visit, it was possible to verify the replacement of all the large exterior windows of the pavilion, which from now on will be adapted to the legislation for this type of large sports venues, and among the new improvements already executed, all the fire-fighting equipment, evacuation doors, and adaptation of the capacity to the regulations stand out.

These works are also allowing to fix the multiple deficiencies of the pavilion, which were aggravated, in addition to non-compliance with regulations and structure, by the abandonment suffered harshly all these years ago.

 

A mandate focused on the neighborhoods

Yonathan de León remarked today, in statements to the media, that this reopening "will be important for the inhabitants of Argana Alta, the largest neighborhood in the city, and it will also be for the entire municipality." The mayor stressed that this mandate "the Municipal Government that he presides over is focused on the neighborhoods".

Within the investments in sports matters, as he recalled, renovated sports equipment will be released in the neighborhoods of Tinasoria, Altavista, Titerroy and Las Salinas, to which newly built facilities in the San Francisco Javier neighborhood will be added, which will be launched in these coming weeks.
