Víctor Fernández Gopar is one of those men who have written the history of the Canary Islands that is not written, the history of the people told through their couplets. This is how Benito Cabrera, director of the Víctor Fernández Gopar Seguidillas Festival, defined the figure of the "salinero" poet, who addressed the hundreds of people who in this edition, the tenth of the festival, came to enjoy the best couplets of now and always.
This year's poster was not to be missed. From Tenerife, the members of the Parranda de Cantadores arrived to the town of Yaiza with the participation of soloists from Los Campesinos, and from the other end of the country, the Galicians from Milladoiro. As every year, the Parranda el Janubio did not miss, performing the winning couplets of the contest that precedes the seguidillas festival. This year, five couplets were submitted to the contest, of which the jury unanimously chose "Joy and sanity through the seguidilla" by Ángel Pedro Suárez Alonso as the winner.
The second prize went to the work "Seguidillas de viento y marea" by José Francisco Noda Acosta and the runner-up prize went to "Dama Juana", created by Juan Carlos Monteverde García. The festival featured the director of the RNE program "Trébede", Iñaqui Peña in the task of master of ceremonies. An unforgettable night for folklore lovers, in a festival that celebrates ten years of existence.
