The Teguise City Council has begun to pay transport aid for the 2023-2024 academic year, aimed at students residing in the municipality and who are studying non-compulsory education. In this way, "about 700 students of baccalaureate, training cycles and university", who study both on the island and outside of it, will benefit from these aids, which amount to "a total of 350,000 euros".
The Councilor for Education, Mar Boronat, details that “this subsidy is intended to help the families of our municipality to face the expenses involved in student travel, both plane tickets, as well as those of the boat, metro, bus or taxi.”
Boronat explains that “these aids that have already begun to be paid consist of a single amount of 150 euros for students who study within the island, 500 euros for those who study on other islands and 600 euros for students studying outside of the Canary Islands.
For her part, the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, highlights “the town hall's commitment to education and to the young people of our municipality. I hope that these subsidies will be very useful for students and that they will allow them to continue with their academic training.”
Finally, Duque points out that “from the town hall we are committed to increasing the amount of these grants for the next financial year, since we want all students to have the same opportunities to access a quality education, regardless of their economic situation.
