The Teguise City Council has completed the installation of new surveillance and lifeguard resources on the municipality's coastline, as part of the plan to improve and reinforce safety in bathing areas.
Specifically, three autonomous watchtowers have already been installed on Famara beach, two elevated advanced posts on Las Cucharas beach, in Costa Teguise, and one advanced watch post on El Jablillo beach. Likewise, the installation of a new advanced post in the La Caleta de Famara pier area is planned for the near future, with the aim of expanding coverage in one of the most crowded spots.
These infrastructures are added to the already operational first aid stations, which function as a base for lifeguarding personnel and allow for rapid and coordinated attention in case of any incident. All beaches also have a flag system and specific signage, including multilingual information signs aimed at residents and visitors.
The service also incorporates new material resources, including a all-terrain vehicle, a jet ski, and complementary equipment for the rescue team, provided by the awarded company.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, has highlighted that “with these new resources we reinforce the organization of the service and guarantee constant supervision on our beaches, improving response capacity and offering greater safety to those who enjoy our coastline”.
For her part, the Councilor for Beaches, Rita Hernández, pointed out that "the installation of these towers and advanced posts allows for expanded coverage in strategic areas, improved surveillance at points of greatest concentration, and, furthermore, offers a better service to both tourists and regular users of our beaches."
The Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Eugenio Robayna, stressed that “these new means strengthen the planning and coordination of operations, consolidating a more effective and prepared service”.
The action is financed by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Tourism and Employment, together with the Teguise City Council, with a total investment of 635,000 euros intended for the improvement of the surveillance system, signage, and equipment on the municipality's beaches.
