The Teguise City Council held an event this Tuesday to mark the commissioning of the Municipal Technical Office facilities, located in the old La Villa school building.

The day was particularly emotional with a tribute to Francisco Betancort, who was the chief municipal engineer and a person closely linked to the Teguise City Council for years, where he developed a distinguished professional career in the service of the municipality.

The new building is named after Francisco Betancort, a designation approved by the Teguise City Council Plenary and made effective with the inauguration of the new facilities. Family members attended the event, accompanied by colleagues who shared years of work with him at the City Council, as well as current staff and the municipal corporation.

The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, particularly highlighted the significance of the tribute. “Today we are commissioning these new municipal facilities, and we do so by remembering a person who left an important mark on those of us who had the opportunity to work alongside him. That this building bears the name of Francisco Betancort allows his memory to remain alive within the City Council itself and recognizes his professional and human career,” she stated.

For his part, the councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Domingo Cejas, recalled the figure of the honored engineer. “Francisco Betancort was part of the day-to-day of this local administration for many years, and this recognition allows his name to remain linked to public service and the municipality of Teguise,” he indicated.

Councilwoman Rita Hernández pointed out that “the opening of these facilities provides a space specifically dedicated to the daily work of the Technical Office and to the attention of matters related to this municipal department.” She also conveyed her recognition “to the family of Francisco Betancort and to all the people who shared his professional stage at the City Council with him.”

With the celebration of Tuesday's event, the Engineer Francisco Betancort building, which now houses the facilities of the Teguise Municipal Technical Office, is officially inaugurated.
