The Teguise City Council has completed a new phase of improvements at the Municipal Animal Shelter, incorporating a fully equipped veterinary clinic that will enhance the healthcare and well-being of the animals housed there. The project represents an investment of approximately 30,000 euros, allocated to both construction work and the acquisition of new equipment and specialized materials, and is being carried out in coordination with Gesplan, the entity responsible for managing the shelter.
Improvements include a new exploration area, a fully equipped operating room with a tilting table, anesthesia equipment, an autoclave for instrument sterilization, as well as differentiated pre- and post-operative areas and new surgical materials. Likewise, a new consultation and citizen service area has been set up to offer a more agile and accessible service
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, highlighted that these actions "represent a decisive step within the government group's commitment to placing animal welfare at the center of municipal policies, emphasizing that every investment made in the shelter strengthens the care and protection of the municipality's dogs and cats and consolidates a more humane, responsible management model aligned with Teguise's values".For his part, the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Ginés González, explained that the new clinic will allow for an increase in surgical interventions and veterinary treatments, and **improve the functioning of the CER method** (Capture, Sterilization, and Return) applied to the feline colonies in the municipality. "Teguise has established itself as one of the leading municipalities in the Canary Islands in the application of the CER method, and these improvements will allow us to continue increasing the number of sterilizations, acting with rigor and responsibility on the feline colonies," stated González.
The Teguise City Council "thus reaffirms its commitment to modern, responsible, and animal-friendly management, steadily advancing in the improvement of the shelter and the services it provides to citizens".
