The Teguise City Council approved this Tuesday the municipal budget for the year 2025, which amounts to 39,200,000 euros. These are "balanced accounts, prepared with technical rigor and a clear vocation for public service, which consolidate a management model based on efficiency, sustainability and transparency," they declare from the Consistory.

The budget is slightly increased compared to last year's (39,035,000 euros), and maintains the line of not resorting to bank debt, while guaranteeing timely payment to suppliers and the economic stability of the corporation.

The mayor of Teguise and head of Finance, Olivia Duque, stressed that the 2025 budget "guarantees attention to the real needs of the municipality, with special attention to social cohesion, support for the associative fabric and the promotion of actions in infrastructure and heritage."

“We are talking about accounts that ensure the daily operation of the municipality, and are designed to respond to challenges such as the modernization of the administration, the improvement of tax management, the promotion of our tourist areas and the sustainable development of La Graciosa and all the nuclei of the municipality,” added Duque.

For her part, the first deputy mayor, Rita Hernández, “valued the effort of the entire government team to meet the management needs of the City Council and those of the residents."

Likewise, the councilor of the Government group, Ginés González, stressed that “these are coherent accounts, with execution capacity, which will allow us to complete projects already started and initiate new actions that improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of all points of the municipality."

Budget priorities

Among the most outstanding strategic lines of the 2025 budget is the maintenance and improvement of essential public services with renewed contracts and professionalization of services such as cleaning, maintenance of gardens, sports facilities and animal shelter.

Similarly, strong support for the associative and social fabric, with subsidies to cultural, sports, youth, social and animal welfare groups, as well as transportation aid for students and seniors. Strategic investments with external funds, co-financed by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and European funds, which will allow actions to be carried out in public lighting, paving, sanitation and heritage recovery, such as the Casa Torres Museum project or the improvement of the Castle of Santa Bárbara and the Timple House Museum.

In addition, there will be key reforms in tax management, thanks to the incorporation of a new technician who will lead the updating of tax ordinances and the implementation of new figures such as the Urban Planning Canon for Generators, modernizing local taxation without unfairly increasing the tax burden. Also, human and administrative resources will be reinforced, including the stabilization of personnel and the reorganization of the municipal structure, which will allow for more agile and efficient processing.

Solvency and surplus

The City Council also has a Treasury surplus of more than 22 million euros, after the credit incorporations, which will allow it to face improvement projects for the municipality without compromising financial health.

“This budget reaffirms our will to continue managing with seriousness, closeness and vision of the future. The commitment to the residents of Teguise is absolute, and this document is the tool to continue improving their day to day,” concluded the mayor.
