The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, held a working meeting last Friday with the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, to discuss various matters of interest to the municipality, including the operation of the Municipal Technical Office, sanitation, public infrastructure, and planned actions on the coast of Teguise and La Graciosa.
The backlog at the Technical Office
One of the main issues of the meeting was the need to strengthen the management capacity of the Municipal Technical Office, especially concerning the processing of urban planning files. In this regard, the mayor conveyed the importance of having the support of the regional government to expedite administrative procedures and improve response times to citizens.
During the meeting, the president of the Canary Islands expressed his commitment to collaborate with the Teguise City Council in boosting the Municipal Technical Office, with the aim of "studying support methods that allow progress in the processing of files and meet the needs of the service."
Representatives from the regional government and the Teguise City Council also participated in the meeting, including those responsible for the areas of Coasts, Emergencies, and Water, to analyze various issues that require coordination between both administrations.
Another matter discussed was the economic viability of sanitation actions in Los Cocoteros and Caleta de Caballo, two areas of the municipality where the need to study possible solutions to improve this service is being considered.
Regarding coastal matters, the meeting allowed for discussion of the situation of the pond in Los Cocoteros and the one in La Caleta de Famara, as well as various issues related to beach amenities, the installation of removable signage and signage elements, and the proposal to enable a dog-friendly beach.
Actions related to the incorporation of shaded areas on the Costa Teguise avenue were also analyzed, as part of the proposal called Miradas al Mar, and the feasibility study for new walkways that will improve accessibility at Famara beach and in the vicinity of Las Cucharas beach, opposite the Hotel Salinas.
During the meeting, other municipal needs were also addressed, including the situation of the niches in La Graciosa and the ambulance service in La Caleta de Famara, issues that were transferred for analysis by the competent departments.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, pointed out that "one of the priority issues for the City Council is to improve the response capacity of the Municipal Technical Office, because behind each file there are residents, families, and professionals who need their procedures to move forward. Having the support of the Government of the Canary Islands is fundamental to study solutions that allow for the improvement of this service's operation."
Likewise, Duque highlighted that "Teguise is a municipality with very different realities and with needs that require the involvement of different administrations. It is important to maintain this direct communication with the Government of the Canary Islands to continue addressing issues that affect our towns, public services, and infrastructure."
For his part, the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, stated that "municipalities are the administration closest to the citizens and need to have the adequate resources and tools to meet their demands effectively and agilely, which is why the Government of the Canary Islands maintains its willingness to collaborate with the Teguise City Council to analyze the needs of its Municipal Technical Office and study possible measures to reinforce its operation, streamline administrative procedures, and offer a more efficient response to residents, professionals, and companies that need to move forward with their projects."
The meeting concluded with the presentation of different issues that require technical and administrative follow-up, both in relation to the Municipal Technical Office and with actions related to sanitation, accessibility, and coastal management, to determine the corresponding alternatives and procedures in each case.
