The Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council has paid the competitive concurrence subsidies to promote cultural activity in the island's capital, corresponding to last year.

These grants, which amount to 60,354.5 euros, have been distributed among the projects of 16 cultural, artistic and creative associations and groups.

Mayor Yonathan de León highlights that the City Council, with this line of aid, promotes the production of cultural activity on the island, which reverts to the citizens.

For the first mayor, the support for culture "is on the roadmap of the Government group he chairs, and together with these aids, the City Council has also reinforced and increased the economic items in the budget for this 2024".

For her part, the Councilor for Culture, Abigail González, has pointed out that "Arrecife is taking important steps in cultural activity and our duty as a City Council is to support, through these aids, those associations with projects linked to the promotion of traditional culture, cultural expressions or the performing arts, which help us grow and turn the capital of Lanzarote into a cultural reference for all of the Canary Islands.

The first of these three axes includes those activities related to the promotion of the culture of the city, island or autonomous community of the Canary Islands, such as folklore workshops, traditional instrumentation classes, talks, workshops for the creation of typical products of traditional Canarian culture such as openwork, traditional clothing and others related to the title of the axis.

The Promotion of Cultural Expressions is related to activities or events related to culture in general, such as painting, literary creation or editing, plastic and analogous arts; and the third of the axes or Promotion of the Performing Arts, is aimed at those activities of theater, dance, performance and other analogous ones.

Thus, based on these three lines of action, the associations that have received the subsidies on this occasion have been:

Asociación Cultural Y Musical La Cuadrilla, Asociación Cultural y Musical Batucada Princesa Atenya, Asociación Socio-Cultural Tempoko, Asociación Derecho y Justicia, Agrupación Folklórica Coros y Danzas, Asociación Social Creciendo Yaiza, Asociación Agrupación Folklórica Los Campesinos, Unión Deportiva Valterra, Fundación Canaria Flora Acoge, Asociación Asperger Islas Canarias (Aspercan), Asociación Lánzate, Asociación Cultural Parranda Marinera Los Buches, Asociación de Personas Sordas de Arrecife y Lanzarote Apsal, Asociación de Familias Oncohematológicas de Lanzarote, Asociación de Enfermos de Fibromialgia de Lanzarote and Asociación Cultural y Deportiva Acciones Unidas.

"We are going to continue working with the different groups and I hope that next year we will have many more projects that continue to enrich the culture in Arrecife," emphasizes councilor Abigail González.
