SEPCA demands the resignation of the Councilor for Personnel of San Bartolomé for the "lack of negotiating will"

The Union of Public Employees of the Canary Islands believes that "he does not have the appropriate profile and attitude to maintain negotiations and reach possible consensus"

Antonio Rocío, the Councilor for Economy and Finance of San Bartolomé.

The SEPCA Union of the San Bartolomé de Lanzarote City Council has called an assembly to explain to municipal workers what has happened in this legislature. The Personnel Board is "very angry" due to the lack of negotiating will of the PSOE Government team. That is why it demands the resignation of the Councilor for HR, as it is considered that "he does not have the appropriate profile and attitude to maintain negotiations and reach possible consensus."

Before the municipal elections, a general table was convened "in which a series of proposals and agreements were presented, from which no responses were obtained from the Government team, with the excuse of being able to solve it after the Municipal Elections. To date, they have not even sat down to talk about it." They have been suggested to request a report from the Public Function, this being the control entity, and they have refused to do so, preferring to hire external private companies, "which is why this union asks; is there any kind of interest behind it?"

On the other hand, in the month of April, a General Negotiation Table is unilaterally convened, without agreeing on the day, time and agenda, with the sole intention of approving the Public Offer for the year 2024. "At said table, it is requested that it be postponed, since none of the pending proposals are added to it, as well as the reports that justify the economic amounts related to the Employment Offer that is intended to be approved, since in said offer there is a specific A2 Category position, with a destination supplement at the maximum level, when in this City Council there are A1 categories below that same level of supplement that is intended to be approved," they state.

Therefore, the criteria that justify these differences are requested, obtaining as a response from said Councilor, "an authoritarian and imposing position, stating that this was not reason enough to postpone it."

This union has been forced to take the matter to court, through Contentious - Administrative due to lack of collective bargaining. "We thought they were going to negotiate, but they only give us long and dación en cuenta, to finish, imposing themselves." "A political organization that boasts of being left-wing, that boasts of carrying 'socialists' in its acronym, that boasts in its Statutes of defending the working class and the most disadvantaged people in our society, but that, in its actions and ways of the last years, indicate the opposite."

Parallel to this claim, SEPCA also denounces the "irresponsibility of Mr. Antonio Rocío and Mr. Isidro Pérez in the Conflict with their Local Police. The recent escalation of tension between the Local Police and the municipal representatives has revealed a worrying lack of negotiating capacity and irresponsible behavior. The alleged "negotiations" that they have carried out are nothing more than a series of unilateral impositions, disguised under the false mantle of dialogue, which has led to the total breakdown of any attempt at understanding," they say.

According to the union, the mayor himself "promised to manage the problem first-hand, but what we have witnessed is a sad representation of the game of "good cop, bad cop" between him and his councilor Antonio Roció. This superficial staging not only underestimates the intelligence of the Local Police workers, but also aggravates the situation. It is not a trivial statement on the part of this union nor a mere reflection of the current discontent."

"The daily reality shows that our words are based. The image that the PSOE has projected in the last year is alarming and the frustration that this generates among workers is evident. A party that has historically prided itself on defending our rights seems to have forgotten its commitment to social justice. Evidencing the need for a deep reflection on the current course of its policies," they indicate.
