The Sentirte Association denounces that delays of up to two years in the processing of dependency and disability leave many families in Lanzarote without receiving the financial aid and deductions that correspond to them.
The association warns of "dramatic situations caused by the inaction of the Government of the Canary Islands, which doubly punishes the most vulnerable families".
Sentirte denounced this Tuesday the serious situation faced by numerous families due to delays of up to two years in the processing of disability and dependency files by the Government of the Canary Islands. "An unsustainable situation that is preventing families from accessing economic deductions, specific aid linked to the degree of dependency and disability, educational scholarships and even adapted jobs for young people with disabilities," they said.
“We are talking about files that are taking forever. There are families who have been waiting more than two years for a resolution. Meanwhile, they lose essential aid, tax deductions and insertion opportunities,” denounced Saula Rodríguez, spokesperson for Sentirte. “The administration not only does not accompany us, but blocks us from rights that are fundamental,” she continued.
The association emphasizes that "inadequate processing prevents families from benefiting from tax deductions such as that of a dependent with a disability or for the care of dependent persons, which represents a direct economic loss." In addition, many of these families "are seeing how their sons and daughters are excluded from calls for scholarships and other support such as the reduction of educational tuition for not having their degree of disability recognized, despite meeting the requirements in practice".
“We are no longer just talking about obtaining the degree but about families who have to review their degree and lose benefits,” she adds. “What is happening is very serious. The rights of minors, dependent persons, and families who are already in a difficult situation and who see how the system not only does not support them, but punishes them, are being violated,” Rodríguez assured.
The association recalls that these families allocate many more resources than the average to the care, intervention and care of their sons and daughters, and that the lack of institutional response is aggravating a situation that is already complex in itself. “It is deeply unfair. You cannot talk about inclusion while allowing this level of abandonment,” they pointed out.
From Sentirte they demand immediate action from the Government of the Canary Islands, with extraordinary measures to resolve the collapse in the valuation services and to guarantee that no family continues to lose rights and resources due to administrative inefficiency.
