Santana urges the Cabildo to negotiate with AENA so that Lanzarote airport has a pharmacy

The councilor of the Cabildo has asked the airport's management entity to "review the rental conditions of its commercial premises, which in the past led to the closure of the last pharmacy due to the high costs"

The councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Armando Santana, urges the Government group to negotiate with AENA to facilitate the reopening of a pharmacy in the César Manrique Airport facilities.

Santana has asked the airport's management entity to "review the rental conditions of its commercial premises, which in the past led to the closure of the last pharmacy, unable to face the high costs".

“It is unacceptable that an airport with the importance and passenger traffic like Lanzarote does not have an essential service such as a pharmacy,” said Santana. “Passengers, both residents and tourists, need access to medicines and basic products during their trips, and AENA has the responsibility to ensure that this is possible.”

The councilor denounces that the economic conditions imposed by AENA for the management of commercial premises at the airport "are disproportionate and unrealistic", describing the situation as “business usury”. These policies, according to Santana, "not only affect the accessibility of basic services, but also the image of the island as a tourist destination committed to the well-being of its visitors".

“We are talking about an essential public service, not a luxury business. It is time for AENA to adopt a more ethical and accessible position, allowing the installation of a pharmacy at a fair and reasonable rental price. This will not only benefit passengers, but will also contribute to the good name of Lanzarote as a destination that prioritizes quality and attention to its visitors,” he highlights.

From the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Armando Santana has reiterated that those responsible for the Government Group in the Cabildo must mediate and collaborate in the search for solutions that allow the reopening of a pharmacy at the airport. “We cannot allow excessive economic interests to continue affecting the population and the tourism sector,” concluded the councilor.

"The current situation has generated discomfort among airport users and has been the subject of numerous complaints, especially from tourists who have found themselves in medical emergency situations without access to basic medicines," he says. Santana has urged AENA "to reconsider its pricing policies and prioritize the general interest of citizens and visitors to Lanzarote."
