Armando Santana, councilor for Commerce, Hospitality, and Animal Welfare of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, was on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero this Wednesday to discuss some issues, including the lack of technicians in the Animal Welfare department.
As he has stated on air, it is something he has been "suffering" since he took office last June. Despite this, Santana has emphasized that initiatives such as the National Dog Week, the Animal Welfare Fair have been carried out, and subsidies for animal shelters have been improved, as well as the celebration of the Veterinarians Congress.
However, this situation **has made it impossible to carry out different projects**. "The head of the College of Veterinarians of Las Palmas wanted to meet with me this week to carry out different initiatives in Lanzarote, but it has been impossible due to the lack of technicians," he indicated. He also pointed out that he has conveyed to Oswaldo Betancort, president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, and to the Governing Council, that "a solution must be found and, even, **leave the Area so that another department with a technician or staff was capable of managing it**".Regarding this, the counselor has proposed that the Department of Environment, led by Samuel Martín, be the one to resume the management of this Area."Here we have to put aside our egos, although my intention is to have an authorized technician and be able to work normally, but since June it has been impossible, and I believe that the animals are above any interest," he concluded
