The San Bartolomé City Council has put out to tender the project for the improvement of accessibility in Plaza León y Castillo, in the historic center of the municipality, with a base budget of 692,365.82 euros, including taxes. The intervention will allow for the improvement of the conditions of use of this public space and will contribute to enhancing its heritage value and its integration into the historic environment of San Bartolomé.
The project includes the renovation of the existing pavement through the installation of new natural stone, with adequate characteristics of stability, regularity, and slip resistance. It also includes the adaptation of accesses and stairs, the construction of ramps, and other actions aimed at eliminating architectural barriers and facilitating pedestrian circulation between the different areas of the square.
The works will also cover the adaptation and repair of low walls, planters, bleachers, and other constructive elements, as well as the adaptation of urban elements and electrical installations and the restoration of services that may be affected during the works.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlights that this action will allow progress in both accessibility and the conservation and enhancement of one of the most representative spaces in the municipality. “Plaza León y Castillo is part of the identity of San Bartolomé and its historic center. With this intervention, we want to improve this space, enhance its value, and ensure it remains a meeting place for our residents, respecting its importance within the traditional urban environment.”
Pérez emphasizes that the improvement of public space must be accompanied by measures that allow it to be enjoyed in equal conditions. “We want a municipality that takes care of its heritage and, at the same time, moves towards more accessible, safe, and comfortable spaces. Enhancing our historic center also means making it easier for everyone to walk through and enjoy it.”
For her part, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, highlights the importance of addressing public space improvements from a perspective that takes into account both the functionality and the urban identity of the municipality. “Plaza León y Castillo is a significant space within the historic center of San Bartolomé. This intervention allows us to move towards a more accessible and well-maintained environment, paying attention to the elements that make it up and its integration into the traditional image of the municipality”.
Romero adds that the improvement of public spaces contributes to reinforcing the relationship of the citizenry with their environment. “Urban planning also consists of taking care of the places that are part of our history and our daily lives. We want the historic center to continue being a vibrant, pleasant, and accessible space, which preserves its character and responds to the current needs of residents”.
For his part, the Councilor for Public Works, Raúl de León, explains that the project combines the renovation of existing elements with improvements aimed at facilitating movement and the daily use of the square. “We will act on the pavement, the accesses, the stairs, and different elements of the square to improve pedestrian circulation and eliminate barriers. It is an intervention that seeks to make this space more functional and accessible, while at the same time taking care of its image and its role within the historic center”.
The councilor adds that the action will improve the general conditions of this urban environment by repairing constructive elements and adapting affected facilities. “Our goal is for the square to gain in comfort, safety, and accessibility, and for these improvements to also contribute to enhancing an important space for the social life and heritage of San Bartolomé”.
The contract establishes an execution period of eight months. Interested companies can submit their offers electronically through the Public Sector Contracting Platform until November 16, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
With this tender, the San Bartolomé City Council continues to promote the improvement of public spaces, the elimination of architectural barriers, and the enhancement of the historic center, combining accessibility, environmental conservation, and the quality of life of the citizens.
