San Bartolomé will celebrate LGTBIAQ+ Pride Day for a diverse society

The activities will begin on Friday morning to give visibility to the struggle of the collective, with the reading of the manifesto and with two musical performances by the artist Mel Ömana

The San Bartolomé City Council will celebrate LGTBAIQ+ Pride Day next Friday, June 28, at the Municipal Theater and León y Castillo Square. A day of protest to continue betting from the institutions for a "diverse and open society", they have advanced. It will include a meeting dedicated to giving visibility to the struggle of the collective, the reading of the manifesto and two musical performances by the artist Mel Ömana.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, has pointed out the "importance" of all municipalities, regardless of whether they are large or small, "we must bet on visibility and commitment to being a safe place and a quiet and respectful space, open to listening and education in a diverse and accessible way."

In addition, he stressed that San Bartolomé "is a place of reference, committed and that shows firm support for diversity, recognizing rights, supporting their demands and affirming this with the celebration of Pride Day."

For her part, the Councilor for Equality, Mónica de León, has stated that Pride Day in San Bartolomé "is a project that was born with the intention of vindicating the history, culture and LGTBIAQ+ testimonies, as well as highlighting the importance of creating spaces that help raise awareness, educate and share diversity."

The Pride of San Bartolomé will begin its events on Friday, June 28, at 9:30 a.m., with a performance by Mel Ömana and the celebration of a meeting-talk in which Vivien Déniz, Celeste González, Gara Pérez, Nena Santana will participate and moderated by Cristian Velasco. These personalities are recognized for their professional and vital careers, which have been dedicated to giving visibility to the struggle of the collective, becoming references and activators of their rights. The meeting will address issues related to the past, present and future of LGBTIAQ+ in the Canary Islands, as well as progress in rights.

Later, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a reading of the manifesto and raising of the flag in the León y Castillo square, next to the Town Hall, by the LGTBIQA+ groups of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and the final performance by Mel Ömana.
