The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Thursday the 1st Heritage Conference ‘Roots and Future’, an initiative aimed at promoting the patrimonial rediscovery of the municipality through a series of meetings that will take place from October 3 to November 14.
The event was presented by the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, and by the Councilor for Heritage, Alma González, who announced all the details of this project aimed at exploring and valuing the history of the municipality.
In this sense, Mayor Isidro Pérez highlighted that the heritage wealth of San Bartolomé ranges from architectural and archaeological elements to the culture and traditions of the town, and these manifestations must continue to pass from generation to generation thanks to initiatives like these. “We want to rediscover and safeguard these riches through conferences and educational workshops and, thanks to this, reach neighbors of all ages who want and should know their land,” the mayor stressed.
For her part, the Councilor for Heritage, Alma González, pointed out that ‘Roots and Future’ will offer the public conferences and meetings, with the aim of promoting dialogue and reflection, promoting the conservation of heritage, valuing it and educating and raising awareness. “The activities are designed to highlight the importance of heritage not only as a legacy of the past, but also as a vital resource for our future, instilling a feeling of belonging and pride among the population of San Bartolomé,” said the councilor.
In addition, the councilor announced that, on the occasion of the tribute that will be paid to the chronicler Facundo Perdomo, the literary work Un madrileño en el mar will be re-edited, which will have a didactic unit that will be worked on in the educational centers of the municipality.
The events of the Conference will begin on October 3, with a tribute to the chronicler Facundo Perdomo; on October 17, the art historian Arminda Arteta will lead the conference ‘A tour of the cultural heritage of San Bartolomé’; on October 24, the doctor in Information Sciences and well-known local author, Mario Alberto Ferrer, will star in ‘A look at the historical photography and cinema of San Bartolomé; on November 7, José Hernández will be appointed as Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé and, on November 14, the archaeologist of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, José de León, will share his knowledge through the presentation Archaeology of El Jable. All events, with the exception of the appointment of José Hernández, will take place at Casa Ajei.
Tribute to Facundo Perdomo and appointment of José Hernández
The mayor and the councilor announced during the presentation that in the last Plenary Session, held during this week, the appointment of the neighbor José Hernández as Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé was agreed.
First, on October 3, at 8:00 p.m., a tribute will be paid to the figure of the former official chronicler of San Bartolomé, Facundo Perdomo, since 2001, with the presence of his relatives and directed by José Hernández and Francisco Hernández.
Likewise, on November 7, the official ceremony to appoint José Hernández as the new chronicler of San Bartolomé will take place at 8:00 p.m. in the Municipal Theater.
“José Hernández González deserves the award of Official Chronicler of the municipality because he has been throughout his life a defender of all those cultural values that identify San Bartolomé as a town committed to its history, its customs, its traditions, offering his knowledge to children, young people and adults, because he put life into the Municipal Archive, because his research works have crossed the island limits and are a reference to know the history of this town,” the mayor remarked.
