The Popular Party of San Bartolomé denounces the "armed robbery" of merchants and residents that the San Bartolomé City Council approved in the extraordinary plenary session this Tuesday, in which the 57% increase in the garbage tax was approved.
The spokesperson for the Popular Party in the municipality, Jeziel Martín, who voted against this increase, argued his refusal "due to the Mayor's tiresome neglect of his basic duties."
"Under no circumstances will we be against compliance with the law; what we will not tolerate is the mayor's silence and lack of tact with residents and merchants," assured the spokesperson, who reprimanded the municipal mayor that in addition to the extremely high tax burden that the municipality's citizens will bear, "they do not enjoy any type of additional compensation." "They also don't see improvements in the collection service, so residents wonder: why are we paying more taxes?"
"What a resident or merchant expects from a mayor is that they be up to the situation, and if they are forced into this massive increase, they should be able to introduce some type of bonus to compensate for the yoke they will have to bear from now on," pointed out the popular spokesperson.
Furthermore, the Popular Party emphasizes the mayor's lack of tact in addressing the merchants' requests, as one of the allegations put forward by the Association of Commerce and Entrepreneurs Ajei of San Bartolomé (ACEA) requested an informational meeting between merchants and the city council itself.
"Once again, we see how the mayor turns his back on the entire citizenry and the business fabric of the municipality. Not only is he incapable of finding solutions, but he also doesn't want to listen to them," concluded Martín.
