The San Bartolomé City Council has demanded from the Cabildo de Lanzarote that "unblock immediately" the situation of the municipal gym, whose works have remained paralyzed since last October 2023.

Mayor Isidro Pérez has also pointed out that “since August 2025 I have not had any direct communication about the project's situation. Seven months have passed without knowing about progress or administrative decisions. This shows that, if the San Bartolomé City Council had not announced this week that it would publicly denounce this situation, probably today we would still be without any information about the real status of this work.”

The mayor recalled that it is an infrastructure widely used by the population of San Bartolomé and whose paralysis directly affects the daily life of the municipality. “Around a thousand people pass through this space practically every day. It is a fundamental facility for the social and sports life of the population, which currently presents a very improvable state and requires a definitive solution as soon as possible.”

The San Bartolomé City Council regrets that, after more than three years of administrative procedures and almost two years without progress on the work, "there is still no clear decision that allows reactivating the project".

The Councillor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, points out that the City Council has collaborated with the file at all times, providing the required documentation and facilitating the necessary procedures so that the project could move forward.

“The San Bartolomé City Council has processed in time and form all the necessary documentation of the open administrative file so that the Cabildo de Lanzarote could act agilely and that this project would move forward at all times. Our will has always been that this initiative would take body and form so that  San Bartolomé could enjoy this infrastructure as soon as possible.”

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, emphasizes that “after almost two years of paralysis, the least San Bartolomé deserves is a clear answer about when the municipal gym is going to be unlocked, in addition to maintaining the committed funding for this space.”

The governing team of the municipal council also shows its concern that, “given the current situation, the Cabildo de Lanzarote always tries to transfer the responsibility for its deficient management to  other administrations instead of adopting decisions that allow solving the problem”.

The mayor of San Bartolomé understands that, as a public administration, "we must ensure the quality of life of the female and male residents, and when difficulties arise, seek solutions; for this reason we ask for a clear response and the immediate unblocking of the municipal gym works project, since reality once again highlights the difficulties the municipality encounters in advancing projects when they depend on Cabildo decisions".
