The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, denounced the "lack of action" by the Cabildo de Lanzarote regarding the municipal gymnasium project, which he has described as "one of the most anticipated works by the residents of the municipality." Pérez has criticized "the ineffectiveness" in making decisions once the work has begun, which has caused the project to remain paralyzed for more than a year, preventing the development of an essential infrastructure for sports and healthy living in San Bartolomé."This project is blocked by the Council's inability to act and resolve the necessary modification that was made to correct technical issues once the work had begun. We have been waiting for a response for a year and the citizens of San Bartolomé cannot continue to suffer this paralysis," said the mayor. San Bartolomé Demands Resolution of the File

Pérez explained that the awarded company "decided to abandon the work because it could not continue in an irregular administrative situation, generated by the lack of resolution of the file."

"We ask that the Cabildo of Lanzarote resolve the file once and for all, return the project to the City Council if it does not have the management capacity, and maintain the committed financing, because San Bartolomé deserves this infrastructure," insisted Mayor Isidro Pérez.

The mayor also recalled that the stoppage is due to "a defect in form" in the project approved by the Cabildo itself, which, in his words, "further demonstrates the lack of responsibility and diligence of the island administration."

"If the Cabildo is not capable of assuming its responsibility, let it return the management to the City Council. We are prepared to execute this work and complete it as soon as possible, but we need the financial support that was already planned. The residents of San Bartolomé cannot continue waiting," concluded Isidro Pérez.

They point to the "lack of decisions"

In this regard, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Marlene Marrero, stressed that "the lack of progress is not due to technical issues" of the City Council at this point in the process, but to "the absence of decisions" by the island corporation.

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Alexis Hernández, stressed the importance of the municipal gymnasium for the promotion of physical activity and the well-being of the population. "Sports in San Bartolomé need adequate infrastructure. This gymnasium will not only benefit the entire population that demands spaces to improve their quality of life and practice healthy lifestyle habits."

The San Bartolomé City Council reiterates its commitment to improving sports infrastructure and defending the interests of the municipality and its citizens.
