The San Bartolomé City Council has developed an extensive program of activities to commemorate Women's Day, which is celebrated every March 8, and invites the public to participate in the scheduled activities aimed at strengthening the visibility of the struggle for women's rights.
“It is important to continue commemorating this important day, which reflects the need to continue working towards the real achievement of equal rights", said the mayor, Isidro Pérez. In addition, he wanted to invite all citizens to participate in these events, "which value the struggle of everyone for the progress that is being made and for how much remains to be achieved."
For her part, the councilor reiterated "the importance of celebrating this day”, so as not to forget that “it is still essential that all citizens understand that working for equal rights is a daily and very necessary job."
Likewise, the City Council appreciates the involvement of the different associations and groups, the selfless contribution of collaborating people and speakers, as well as the Department of Equality of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
8M Program
On the eve of Women's Day, the City Council has organized the making of bags and t-shirts for the 8M celebration, in the Plaza de Santa Elena, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
On March 8, a manifesto will be read at 12:00 in front of the City Council, and in the afternoon a call will be made to participate in the demonstration that will take place in Arrecife.
As for the workshops and talks, San Bartolomé has organized one entitled “Knowing tools to manage emotions and calm the mind”, for Wednesday, March 9 at the Playa Honda Civic Center. On the same day there will be a talk given by the Legal Services of Mararía.
On March 10, the book “The Revolt of the Whores” will be presented by the author Amelia Tiganus at the San Bartolomé Municipal Theater, while also on Thursday and Friday the basic home repair workshop taught by ESACAN will be held at the Playa Honda Civic Center.
On the occasion of 8M, there will also be two exhibitions in the municipality. From Monday, March 7 to Sunday, March 13, there will be an exhibition of photos of significant women from the municipality on Calle Mayor in Playa Honda. On the other hand, from March 8 to April 18 you can visit the exhibition by Iván Tempra, “30 Canary women to change history” in the El Hall de Playa Honda Room.
