The San Bartolomé City Council formally requests the Directorate of the Lanzarote Health Area, the Management of Health Services of the island, and the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands to be provided with the Master Plan for Health Infrastructures of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, a strategic document that establishes the bases for planning the evolution of the island's health network over the next two decades, with a horizon of 2044.

The City Council considers it necessary to know the content of this planning, its priorities, and the actions that may affect the municipality, especially after the project for the new health center in Playa Honda is affected by the plan's forecasts, with the consequent delay of an infrastructure necessary to respond to the demands of the population.

The document, prepared by technicians from the public company Gesplan, analyzes the current and future needs of the health network and proposes a roadmap to order interventions in the short, medium, and long term. For the City Council, it is essential to know what criteria have been applied, which actions are prioritized, and how these decisions affect the services planned for San Bartolomé.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, points out that city councils must have sufficient information about decisions that may affect their services and territorial planning. “We are talking about a strategic document for the future of public healthcare in Lanzarote and La Graciosa that directly affects San Bartolomé. We are particularly concerned about the impact these forecasts may have on the new health center in Playa Honda, an infrastructure necessary to meet the needs of our residents. Therefore, we have formally requested that the plan be provided to us, to know its content and the reasons for the decisions affecting our municipality.”

Pérez considers that information about planning of this relevance must be transferred through the corresponding institutional channels to the affected administrations. “We do not understand how Coalición Canaria could have analyzed and disclosed aspects of the document at their political headquarters while the municipalities that may be affected still do not formally have it. Health planning must be addressed with transparency, information, and coordination between administrations, and town councils must be able to know it to contribute, within our competencies, to it responding to the real needs of the citizens”.

The City Council recalls that the planning of health infrastructures has special importance for San Bartolomé, both due to the demographic evolution of the municipality and the need to anticipate the population's healthcare demands. In this regard, the delay of the new Playa Honda health center makes it even more necessary to know the provisions contemplated in the Master Plan and to have explanations on how an adequate response to the health needs of the municipality will be guaranteed.

“Our responsibility is to defend the interests of the residents of San Bartolomé. We cannot assess or explain decisions that affect such an important infrastructure without access to the official documentation. We want to know the plan, study its provisions, and maintain direct dialogue with health officials so that the needs of our municipality are present in the island's planning,” adds the mayor.

The San Bartolomé City Council expects the requested documentation to be sent as soon as possible and reiterates its willingness to collaborate with the Health Department, the Health Services Management, and the Ministry of Health to contribute to coordinated, transparent planning that is adapted to the present and future needs of the population of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
