Restoration work advances on the Arrieta wind toy

Jacobo Medina recently visited the works, focused on reviewing the counterweights of the cones and the wear of the bearings due to age, among other modifications

The Public Works Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, directed by the vice president and head of the area Jacobo Medina, is pleased with the progress of the restoration work of the wind toy in the Arrieta roundabout.

Medina recently visited the island's Mobile Park to supervise these restoration works. "It is a pride to see how a wind toy as important as the one that was installed in Arrieta, is being treated with such affection by the workers of the Corporation," Medina said.

"We celebrate this Wednesday the 105th anniversary of the birth of César Manrique, and with the mind set on preserving his legacy, we continue to bet on the rehabilitation of his works," said the vice president and head of the Public Works area

It should be remembered that the Cabildo of Lanzarote removed the wind toy from the Arrieta roundabout in February, in order to carry out the replacement of the support bearing that makes it rotate horizontally, since it should be noted that this piece was built in 1991 with an axle from a retired truck wheel owned by the Cabildo, which was in the landfill.

On the other hand, these works also focus on reviewing the counterweights of the cones and the wear of the bearings due to age, as well as the corrosion suffered in the lower structure of the support. In addition, the replacement of the rods is also being carried out, to place them in stainless steel.

"We started the plan with 'Fobos', we continue with the one in Arrieta and, once finished, we will continue with the rest of the toys on the island, including the one that César made in honor of Pepín Ramírez," Medina concluded.
