The Socialist Party has heavily charged against the mayor for what it considers “a blatant example of abandonment, incapacity and absolute contempt for the city”, after keeping El Reducto beach closed since last October 14 due to fecal discharges.

“Almost six months have passed and the main beach of the capital remains closed. It is an unprecedented shame,” the socialists denounce.

From the PSOE they emphasize that the closure has been prolonged during all key periods for the local economy: the Constitution long weekend, Christmas, Carnivals and now Easter. A date when the city fills with cruise passengers who see this shame taking away a dreadful memory of our capital. “They have been incapable of solving the problem in none of the most important moments of the year, causing enormous economic damage to businesses and to the tourist image,” they state.

The socialists also denounce the "hypocrisy" of the municipal government in the management of public resources: "While they spend nearly 30 million euros on parties and revelry, they are not capable of guaranteeing something as basic as having the main beach open."

The PSOE also directly questions the responsible area: “It is incomprehensible that there is a Councilor for Beaches collecting a public salary while El Reducto has been closed for half a year. This is not management, it is an absolute failure.”

For the socialists, the situation evidences “a mix of incompetence, neglect and total lack of political leadership”, directly blaming the mayor: “The city cannot continue paying for the incapacity of a government that has abandoned its functions in favor of a permanent spree to which are now added the judicial procedures that pursue Yonathan de León”.

“El Reducto closed in Holy Week is the perfect image of misgovernance: a city without direction, without management and without respect for its citizens and visitors” warns Duque.

Cristina Duque demands the immediate opening of the beach and warns: “If in six months they have not been able to solve it, the problem is not technical, it is political. And it has responsible parties with names and surnames”.
