The company Calero Marinas has obtained the renewal of the concession of Puerto Calero for an additional period of 35 years, thus ensuring the continuity of a "key infrastructure for the economic, social and tourist development of Lanzarote".

The final agreement was unanimously adopted in a session of the Board of Directors of Puertos Canarios held this morning in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the extraordinary extension of the concession of the Puerto Calero marina was officially approved, including the project, the planned investments and the update of the concession fee. This institutional act represents the "formal and legal support to one of the most emblematic infrastructures of the autonomous port system", they say.

"The renewal comes after a demanding and complex administrative process developed in coordination with the Association of Sports Ports of the Canary Islands, and successfully completed within the current legal term, becoming the first concession in the Canary Islands renewed within its original period, setting a precedent for future concessions in the archipelago", explain from the company.

According to their statements, "this milestone is much more than an administrative extension: it is the recognition of more than four decades of effort, vision and commitment. A path that began in 1982, when José Calero Rodríguez, with just 35 years old, decided to shape an idea that seemed impossible: to build the first marina in Lanzarote and develop a new tourist sector on the island, the nautical one".

This Friday, a few days before turning 80, the founder celebrates not only the renewal of the concession, but the continuity of a collective dream. “I founded this company with the illusion of transforming an idea into reality, but Puerto Calero is much more than that today. It is the result of the work of an extraordinary team, the commitment of the companies that inhabit it, and the affection of our users. They are the ones who have made this port what it is, and who will mark what it will be for the next 35 years”, declared an emotional José Calero Rodríguez, president of Calero Marinas.

This new period will allow investments of more than 12 million euros to be made, focused on the "modernization of infrastructures, optimization of services and implementation of a management model based on energy efficiency, sustainability and technological innovation". Among the planned actions, the incorporation of intelligent information systems and state-of-the-art services that "will put Puerto Calero at the forefront of the European nautical sector" stands out.

"Puerto Calero was a pioneer in its time, and today it is much more than a marina: it is a symbol of progress for Lanzarote, a meeting point for sailors from all over the world, and an essential infrastructure for access to the sea for a large part of the local population", they point out.

"This infrastructure, which began its activity with 190 moorings, is today an infrastructure that had the first specific service for superyachts in the Canary Islands and today has more than 450 moorings for boats up to 80 meters in length", they continue explaining from the company.

Calero Marinas has reaffirmed its "commitment to the orderly and sustainable continuity of all companies, operators and users of the marina, guaranteeing an environment of legal stability, institutional respect and long-term trust".

“Puerto Calero has been the pillar and the cradle of our marinas. Today we operate four marinas in the Canary Islands, but Puerto Calero has always been our inspiration and the model to follow. This renewal is great news for our company and for the entire international nautical community. Thousands of users visit us every year and we have earned their trust thanks to the quality of service, attention to detail and a way of doing things that reflects the values with which this port was born”, said José Juan Calero, CEO of Calero Marinas, who also adds his "gratitude to the Calero Marinas team, many of them colleagues for almost forty years, for their great work and effort".

The concessionaire company expresses "its sincere gratitude to all the institutions that have accompanied this process", especially to Puertos Canarios (dependent on the Ministry of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands), to the Association of Sports Ports of the Canary Islands, to Marinas de España, to the Cabildo de Lanzarote, to the Yaiza City Council and to the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. "With its sights set on the horizon, Puerto Calero is now beginning an exciting stage. A stage that honors its past, celebrates its present and is firmly committed to the future", they conclude.
