The Public Works Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote installed the Arrieta Wind Toy this Tuesday after remodeling and conditioning work.
The installation, which lasted around four hours, was carried out without any type of incident and complying with all security protocols. “I must congratulate the workers of the Mobile Park for carrying out the remodeling and conditioning work of this work by César Manrique in record time,” Medina assured.
It should be remembered that the Cabildo of Lanzarote removed the wind toy from the Arrieta roundabout in February, in order to carry out the replacement of the support bearing that makes it rotate horizontally, since it must be pointed out that this piece was built in 1991 with an axle from a retired truck wheel owned by the Cabildo, which was in the landfill.
“The works, for which nearly 50,000 euros were invested, focused on reviewing the counterweights of the cones and the wear of the bearings due to age, as well as the corrosion suffered in the lower structure of the support,” explained Medin, who also pointed out that the replacement of the rods was successfully carried out, to place them in stainless steel.
“We continue in this way with the plan to rehabilitate and reconstruct the wind toys that César Manrique left us, with the aim of preserving and keeping his legacy intact,” said the vice president.
Once the maintenance and repair work on the Arrieta toy is completed, the Public Works area will focus its efforts on the rehabilitation of the Montaña Blanca wind toy and the reconstruction of the toy in honor of Pepín Ramírez. “We will return the latter to its place, the airport roundabout, after years of neglect and oblivion by the previous government,” concluded Jacobo Medina.
