The Socialist Party (PSOE) of Teguise will defend in the next plenary session of the Corporation a motion to “define the future” of the Agroindustrial Complex of Teguise through the drafting of a Master Plan.
The objective is clear: to plan, order, modernize and energize this facility with enormous potential to make the activity of the primary sector of Teguise and Lanzarote easier.
In this regard, the socialists propose that said Master Plan become a true roadmap in the short, medium and long term, based on coordinated action between the Teguise City Council and the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
The socialist spokesperson, Marcos Bergaz, emphasizes in this regard that “it is essential to take advantage of all the potential of this historic industrial facility and put it at the service of the primary sector of Teguise and Lanzarote”.
Bergaz recalls that the Complex, inaugurated in the nineties, must aspire to become a strategic infrastructure for the economic development and diversification of the municipality and island, although it currently presents significant shortcomings derived from the passage of time, regulatory evolution and new demands from the sector.
The proposed motion highlights the need to address comprehensive planning that allows, among other issues, identifying the needs and opportunities of the Complex, planning investments and joining efforts among the different administrations and agents involved.
Among the aspects that the Master Plan should plan are the modernization of its facilities and equipment, the improvement of its management model, the ordering of uses, the incorporation of technological and innovative solutions, as well as measures aimed at energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The proposal considers it essential to guarantee the participation of agents linked to the primary sector of Teguise and Lanzarote throughout the process of drafting the future Master Plan, in order to reach a consensus on a management and development model adapted to the current needs of the sector.
For Marcos Bergaz, “the primary sector, in addition to recognition and fairs, deserves that we decisively commit to overcoming the bureaucratic obstacles it suffers, guarantees of access to water and, speaking of infrastructures, bringing the Complex up to date on all levels”.
The socialists with this initiative reaffirm their commitment to the primary sector and underline the need to face, once and for all, strategic decisions that have been postponed for too long with the consequent loss of opportunities.
“That is why we will bring this motion to the next plenary session, conceived by and for the primary sector of the municipality and island, because the time has come to ´define the future´ of the Complejo Agroindustrial de Teguise,” concludes Marcos Bergaz.
