PSOE and PP have reached an agreement to govern together both in the Cabildo and the Arrecife City Council, where they have also sealed an alliance with Nueva Canarias and Somos Lanzarote. In this way, the popular Ástrid Pérez will become the mayor of Arrecife with the support of the socialists and the two councilors achieved by Somos-NC, while the elected president of the Cabildo, Loli Corujo, will have an absolute majority to govern in the institution.
The agreement has been announced in a statement, in which they convene a press conference to be held on Monday afternoon, to announce the details of this alliance. In addition, the official confirmation has arrived after the former head of the PSOE list to the Arrecife City Council and current acting mayor, Eva de Anta, registered this Monday her resignation from the position of councilor in the next legislature. And, according to sources consulted by La Voz, her resignation would have been one of the conditions imposed by the PP to sign this alliance.
With it, PSOE, PP and NC-Somos Lanzarote add up to the 13 councilors that give the absolute majority in the Arrecife City Council, preventing CC, which won the elections obtaining nine councilors, from taking over the Mayor's Office of the capital. Thus, the nationalists will remain in the opposition together with the councilors of Podemos, which is the other party that achieved representation in the Plenary.
As for the Cabildo, it must be remembered that the PSOE was the first force with nine councilors, so that by adding the four achieved by the PP, it already exceeds the absolute majority, which in the first institution is located in twelve. Thus, Loli Corujo ensures that she can maintain the Presidency, preventing a motion of censure in favor of the current acting president, Pedro San Ginés. In the case of the first institution, in addition to the eight councilors of CC, the two achieved by Podemos will remain in the opposition, thus completing the plenary, since Somos Lanzarote-Nueva Canarias did not obtain representation to the Cabildo.
