The PSOE of Lanzarote will demand the urgent appearance of the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, after it was confirmed that he has lost the concession for the fish processing industry in Puerto Naos, a key infrastructure for the island's fishing sector, for having submitted the extension request after the deadline.
"The concession, which covered more than 3,000 square meters of public port property, has been terminated due to an unacceptable administrative error, which represents a serious setback for the future of fishing activity and for the many families that depend on it," the PSOE said.
The Secretary-General of the PSOE of Lanzarote and Member of Parliament, María Dolores Corujo, has stated that what happened "is yet another example of the current President of the Cabildo's inability to manage": "Oswaldo Betancort has lost a strategic infrastructure for the fishing sector of Lanzarote for failing to submit the documentation on time. This is a very serious matter that demands immediate explanations and the assumption of responsibility."
The PSOE insists that this loss demonstrates the lack of planning, leadership, and commitment to the island's productive sectors on the part of the Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular government.
“We are talking about a government that has not been able to pay aid to farmers on time, nor to provide answers to farmers who are still without water, and which now finishes off with the loss of a vital infrastructure for the fishing sector. A complete abandonment of the countryside and the sea that makes it clear that the primary sector is not, nor has it ever been, among its priorities.
"They fill their mouths talking about 'defending what's ours,' but the reality is that they are letting all the pillars of our productive identity fall, one by one. If this is what they understand by defending what's ours, let them explain to us what they plan to do with what belongs to others," Corujo stated.
