Primero Teguise has denounced the charging of admission to the mareta playground, in La Villa, during the celebration of the Enogastronomic Festival Saborea Lanzarote. "To the surprise of parents and the children themselves, this park was fenced off for two days and could not be accessed without handing over tickets for the event," Jonás Álvarez revealed in a statement.
"We can understand that the playground was fenced off to keep it away from the influx of people who passed through the area over the weekend, but charging two euros to access the park is incomprehensible," said Álvarez, who has echoed the complaints of the parents of the children who usually go to the children's enclosure on weekends.
He also highlighted that the park "had no activity or games other than the usual oars that make up the enclosure, with the exception of a tent, so the parents' anger was even greater."
The municipal party understands that the Saborea Lanzarote brand could have created a recreational area, if it deemed it appropriate, for children, but "using a children's park, of a municipal and public nature, to raise money, that is not permissible," clarifies Jonás Álvarez.
Because the playground was intended to be sold as a "gastroludoteca" but the truth is that it is the municipal playground, which "is made up of the games that are always there and the only staff there was the one who collected the tickets, therefore a public infrastructure was used to collect an economic amount."
For this reason, Primero Teguise asks the City Council to "explain what authorization was given to the event's organization to use the park, and to clarify what the purpose of collecting what was collected that weekend was."
