"These avenues need more complete signage and contemplate the possibility of installing speed bumps and lighting at the crosswalks," explains Jonás Álvarez, councilor of Primero Teguise

From the municipalist formation Primero Teguise, they have held several meetings with various sectors of the town and it is highlighted that there is a denser traffic that has to be controlled in three vertices of the town, such as: Avenida del Mar, Avenida del Jablillo and Avenida Islas Canarias. These three avenues "support practically the entire hotel and restaurant offer of Costa Teguise, in addition they are a main part of the route of interurban and private buses with their corresponding bus and taxi stops", says the party.

"The growth of Costa Teguise, both residential and tourist, is more than evident, and this entails a greater influx of pedestrians on the streets, and a greater condensation of traffic. Both the streets, sidewalks and avenues have to be prepared to guarantee safety and circulation", he clarifies.

“These avenues need more complete signage and contemplate the possibility of installing speed bumps and lighting in the zebra crossings, as well as in streets such as Las Piteras or La Laguna, close to infrastructures such as the Secondary Education Institute, the health center and the school", explains Jonás Álvarez, councilor of Primero Teguise.

Primero Teguise "again demands that measures be taken to guarantee the road safety of pedestrians and also channel the exponential growth of traffic" in the town of Costa Teguise. The increase in road traffic, as well as the use of electric scooters, scooters and bicycles, "need adequate regulation."

Several representatives of the municipalist formation residing in Costa Teguise, also emphasize that "the need for a Traffic and Mobility Plan is not new and that little by little the shortcomings in road safety have been increasing."

"On the one hand, there is a lack of parking in all the avenues and also the fact that they have been filled with motorhomes, which almost permanently occupy a space that is reserved for parking vehicles," they explain.

"The abandonment of the City Council is palpable not only there, but in the passivity when acting against the increase in light leisure transport. Now, on the same road, you can find electric skates, cyclists and mobility scooters in 300 meters of travel that invade the sidewalk and when abandoning it, without any road reasoning, they endanger both the pedestrian on the sidewalk and the safety of the road by joining it together with the vehicles," he adds.

“The urban characteristics of Costa Teguise are unique, and we must take advantage of that to continue improving. Be daring and bold and anticipate the needs of our neighbors and tourism so that Costa Teguise is a safe place also for pedestrians¨, concludes Jonás Álvarez.
