Planéate Lanzarote 2026 strengthens its digital presence and moves its fair to the electronic space

The professional opportunities fair, which will feature Francesc Miralles and the Serendipia meeting, adapts this year to an online format without renouncing its commitment to the guidance of the island's students.

Planéate 2026 (1)

The XI Exhibition of Professional Opportunities Planéate Lanzarote will have this year 2026 more digital presence, with the update and reinforcement of content on its website https://www.planeatelanzarote.es/ and a notable increase in publications on its social networks Facebook and Instagram. Administrative difficulties have prevented the physical celebration of the educational fair, which will be temporarily moved to the electronic space. The Exhibition will return to being in-person in 2026.

Planéate Lanzarote is an activity of the Education area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa, aimed at accompanying students in making decisions about their academic and professional future before a change of cycle, that is to say, students of 4th year of ESO, 2nd year of Bachillerato, Aula Enclave, Basic VET and Adapted VET, and those who finish the intermediate and higher degrees.

The responsible councilor, Ascensión Toledo, has assured that this online version of the current edition “does not alter her department's commitment to the maintenance and excellence of this student and family counseling event, which has demonstrated its merits and worth over the last ten years, including the one held during the pandemic.” “It is about being with the students of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, to provide all the information and all the necessary support for the best decision-making about their future,” she added.

He/She has also recalled that one of the objectives of this annual proposal is to show the importance of resilience, of overcoming possible failures and frustrations and turning them into a springboard to go further. “For this reason, instead of giving up an activity that has proven fruitful and effective, we have sought alternatives and complementary paths, which will allow us to return to in-person attendance with much more complete and accessible digital content.”

Inaugural conference

In this vein, the Education area has extended the Planéate event for March 16 to 23, with Francesc Miralles as the star guest at the inaugural conferences. The presence of the writer and speaker, author of the international best-seller IKIGAI, constitutes one of the great attractions of this edition. It will be on March 16, 2026, at the El Salinero Theater, with two sessions scheduled, at 11:00 for students and at 20:00, for the general public. The presentation “IKIGAI: how to find your purpose in life” invites reflection on existential and work meaning, focusing on the importance of discovering personal vocation and taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the environment.

Open Days

The educational options advisory activities themselves will be held between March 17 and 19, with more than a thousand students and teachers from 4th year of ESO and 2nd year of Bachillerato from 17 educational centers in Lanzarote and La Graciosa with confirmed visits to the facilities and equipment of IES Las Maretas, the Zonzamas Integrated Vocational Training Center, the Pancho Lasso School of Art and the Canary Islands Maritime Fishing Vocational Training Institute (Fishing School).

In this way, Planéate continues bringing attending students closer to possible accessible professional opportunities in Lanzarote, adapted to the labor market and that have demonstrated high employability. To this personal experience is added all the information available on the web, provided by vocational training centers from other islands, universities, academies, and public and private entities, such as the training imparted by military establishments and professional schools of various kinds.

Encounter Serendipity

The popular Serendipia meeting has moved to the assembly hall of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and to March 23, at 11 o'clock. The new morning schedule will allow a greater number of students and families who wish to, get closer to the exemplary experiences that are shared in this referential and inspiring space. In addition, the activity will be recorded and uploaded to the Planéate website, which will allow revisiting its contents later.

The organization and moderation of the event this year will be carried out by the content creator, composer and pianist, Jorge Caluz, who has expressed both his gratitude to the Education area for having counted on his experience and to the rest of the speakers who will participate in the round table. “The different visions of Damián García, audiovisual creative; Santiago Ramírez, nurse and traditional wool spinner; Carmen Martín, student of Electrical and Automatic Installations and Abenchara González, student of Coastal Navigation and Fishing, make up a range of options that can be very illustrative for anyone considering what to do with their future. Because there are no barriers or limits to vocation.”

Tribute to the Mercedes Medina association

The finishing touch for Planéate 2026 will be provided this year by the tribute to the Mercedes Medina association, on March 24 at 10:00 AM in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo. It is a non-profit cultural and educational entity that, in addition to facilitating educational opportunities for students with academic talent and limited economic resources, is dedicated to preserving the memory and pedagogical legacy of the teacher from Lanzarote who gives her name to the association and the history of education on the island.

Who's who in Serendipia 2026

Jorge Caluz, speaker and moderator: He is a singer, pianist, and composer from Lanzarote with a visual impairment whose career combines musical performance, teaching, and cultural dissemination. Trained in Lanzarote, Madrid, and London, he develops his artistic activity both as a soloist and in various musical projects, moving between pop, soul, and singer-songwriter music.

He has performed in prominent venues such as Sala Sol in Madrid, Jameos del Agua, El Almacén, the Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” Theater or the Royal Nautical Club of Arrecife, in addition to participating in programs and media such as Radio Nacional de España or Televisión Canaria. He also works as a singing teacher at the TOCOYMA school, performs in hotels and events, and develops content on social media where he combines music, comedy, and outreach to make visible the reality of people with visual disabilities and promote a more inclusive view of society.

Damián García is an audiovisual creative, photographer, producer, and professor. He has worked on audiovisual and communication projects with brands and entities such as CD Tenerife or Fred Olsen, among others. He is currently behind Jorge Caluz's social media, shaping his message and converting his daily life into content that connects and generates impact.  In addition, he is the founder of CICATRI7, a creative project where he develops audiovisual, digital, and textile initiatives with their own identity. His work blends narrative, strategy, and production to transform ideas into content with personality.

Santiago Ramírez Curbelo combines his profession as a nurse with a deep dedication to traditional Canarian culture. He is the only officially registered wool spinner in Lanzarote and develops the entire artisanal process: from sheep care and shearing to spinning and weaving the wool. He also works with rush basketry and actively participates in the dissemination of the island's traditional crafts. In addition, he is a soloist and member of the Agrupación Folclórica Malpaís de la Corona, contributing to keeping Lanzarote's cultural identity alive. His work reflects an idea that well summarizes his way of understanding craftsmanship: “He not only recovers threads, he weaves Lanzarote's identity so that the island's future does not lose its memory.”

Carmen Martín had left high school and decided to take a break. During that time she tried to study online and worked in hospitality, but she felt that nothing quite fit with what she was looking for. A moment came when she had to make a decision: continue working or go back to studying. Finally, she decided to bet on her studies and decided to enroll in the intermediate degree in Electrical and Automatic Installations. She chose this path because she was looking for a profession with high labor demand, which would allow her to have stability and the possibility of working in different sectors. This decision also has to do with something very important nowadays: being able to build financial security and stability for her future.

Abenchara González is 16 years old and is from La Santa. Currently, she is studying at the Maritime Fishing Institute of Lanzarote, where she is pursuing a mid-level degree in Coastal Navigation and Fishing. She had several options in mind, but deep down she knew she didn't like them entirely. Thanks to the Planéate program, she had the opportunity to visit the Fishing School; there she realized that was what she wanted to study. It was not an easy decision. She knew that in this institute, unfortunately, there are not many women, and she was afraid of being alone. Even so, she decided to do it, because she didn't want to stop studying something she liked due to prejudice. To this day, she does not regret her decision. It is true that there are not many girls in the institute, but thanks to her classmates, she has never felt excluded or alone, which was one of her biggest fears when entering. Right now she really likes what she is studying and will surely continue with the higher degree… and who knows if even a university degree.
