The Teguise City Council has intensified surveillance and control measures against the uncontrolled dumping of waste and the improper use of containers in different areas of the municipality, especially in light of incidents related to the deposit of glass, rubble, furniture, and other belongings in unauthorized spaces.
Through coordination between the Cleaning and Local Police departments, the Consistory has reinforced inspection efforts, including the presence of plainclothes officers to identify and penalize these behaviors. These actions have already led to the drawing up of reports and the filing of corresponding complaints by the officers themselves, who have detected infractions related to the improper dumping of waste at various points in the municipality.
The main incidents are concentrated in Costa Teguise, although they are also recorded in other areas such as Tahíche and La Caleta de Famara. This situation forces the municipal cleaning service to carry out extraordinary interventions and allocate resources to the removal of abandoned waste, hindering the development of regular maintenance tasks.
In parallel, the City Council is moving forward with the processing of a contract for the installation of video surveillance cameras in the main problem areas of the municipality, which are expected to be operational in the coming months. This measure will strengthen control efforts and prevent the uncontrolled dumping of waste. Likewise, improvements are already being made to the lighting in those garbage collection points with lower visibility, with the aim of deterring these uncivil practices and facilitating surveillance and supervision tasks.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, states that “we cannot allow the uncivil behavior of a few to harm the entire citizenry and the daily work of municipal services. Therefore, we will continue to strengthen surveillance and apply the corresponding sanctions, because keeping our neighborhoods clean is a shared responsibility.”
For her part, the Councilor for Cleaning, Mar Boronat, explains that “our workers find abandoned waste outside the containers daily, especially glass, rubble, and belongings. This represents an added effort for a service that must attend to numerous spaces in the municipality, and for this reason, we need citizen collaboration to prevent these situations from recurring.”
The City Council reminds that the Costa Teguise Recycling Point, located opposite the golf course, is open from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Sundays and holidays, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Likewise, there is a free home collection service for belongings, which can be requested by calling 900 120 190.
