The mayor of San Bartolomé and member of the Municipal Socialist Group, Isidro Pérez, requests an **urgent and extraordinary meeting** of the Lanzarote Water Consortium Assembly due to the "disinformation" surrounding the transfer of the concession contract. Pérez wanted to convey the "concern of the PSOE mayors about a lack of information that prevents us from even knowing if the new agreement includes any type of adjustment to the public price of water." As he recalls, on January 20, the Canal Isabel II business group, to which Canal Gestión Lanzarote belongs, announced the completion of the tender to determine the company to which it **will transfer the concession contract** for the management of the integral water cycle on the island. Isidro Pérez emphasizes that the transfer "cannot be formalized without the express consent of the Lanzarote Water Consortium," which is why he considers it "essential" for the mayors of the seven municipalities to express their views on the matter, "and the forum for doing so is none other than this Assembly, which must be convened immediately." At this point, he stresses that the president, Oswaldo Betancort, must make public any agreements that may have been reached with the current holder of the integral water cycle concession. "We cannot act opaquely on an issue that demands maximum transparency from a public institution such as the Lanzarote Island Government," he states. Isidro Pérez indicates that since October 6, 2025, no further information has been available beyond a minimum agreement for the Consortium to authorize the transfer, "but the actual terms under which the process will take place are unknown to this day." He also expresses the "unease" caused by the fact that the company will not renounce or withdraw any of the lawsuits filed against the Lanzarote Water Consortium. "We are facing a real recklessness," says the socialist mayor, who concludes by emphasizing the need for the municipalities to be aware of all the documentation available to the Consortium regarding this transfer. In this regard, this includes communications with the concessionaire or its parent company, as well as any technical or legal reports that have been carried out and any possible procedural steps or instructions issued by the presidency.
