The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its councilor Benjamín Perdomo, has lamented the statements of the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, who "tries to blame the City Councils for the failure in the management of the taxi service during the past Christmas holidays".
“The president of the Cabildo cannot hide behind the City Councils to hide his inability to guarantee an efficient taxi service during a period as critical as Christmas. His lack of planning and leadership has left many users without mobility alternatives, generating an avoidable chaos”, Perdomo pointed out.
"Last December, the Cabildo adopted a consensus resolution that intended to establish an exceptional taxi service during the Christmas holidays. However, the results were far from expectations, with numerous complaints about the insufficiency of vehicles and long waits at key points on the island", they say.
The PSOE of Lanzarote recalls that the ultimate responsibility for coordinating and supervising an island service such as the taxi service lies with the Cabildo. “Blaming the City Councils, who are already working with limited resources, demonstrates not only a lack of self-criticism, but an attempt to divert attention from their own mismanagement”, added the socialist councilor.
The Socialist Group urges Oswaldo Betancort to "assume his responsibility and work on real and consensual solutions with the sector, instead of promoting meetings that only seek to place blame on others." “It is urgent that the Cabildo of Lanzarote lead with seriousness and commitment the improvement of the taxi service, especially in times of high demand such as Christmas”, concluded Benjamín Perdomo.
